class=\"isSelectedEnd\">One $2000 Gurmilan Foundation scholarship is available to:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>High school seniors who plan to attend college, a university, or an accredited technical or vocational program<\/li>\n<li>Students who are currently enrolled in college, a university, or an accredited technical or vocational program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Applicants must have a physical disability. This may include a mobility, visual, or hearing disability.<\/p>\n<h2>What Scholarships May Cover<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Scholarships may be used for approved education-related expenses, including:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>Tuition and required school fees<\/li>\n<li>Books and course materials<\/li>\n<li>Required computers, technology, or equipment<\/li>\n<li>Transportation related to attending school<\/li>\n<li>Accessibility or disability-related educational expenses<\/li>\n<li>Other expenses directly connected to the recipient\u2019s education<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Scholarship Eligibility<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Applicants must:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>Have a physical disability<\/li>\n<li>Be a graduating high school senior or a current college, university, technical school, or vocational program student<\/li>\n<li>Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0<\/li>\n<li>Attend school in San Diego County, live in San Diego County, or be graduating from a high school in San Diego County<\/li>\n<li>Submit a complete application and all required documentation by the published deadline<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Applicants may also be asked to provide a recommendation from a teacher, counselor, mentor, tutor, professor, or another person familiar with their educational goals.<\/p>\n<h2>Scholarship Awards<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The Foundation generally seeks to provide larger scholarships that can make a meaningful difference in a student\u2019s education. Grants may support beginners, recreational participants, fitness enthusiasts, and experienced athletes.<\/p><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The purpose of the program is to remove financial and accessibility barriers that may prevent a person with a disability from participating in sports, fitness, recreation, outdoor activities, or other forms of active living.<\/p><h2>What Adaptive Grants May Cover<\/h2><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Adaptive Grants may be used for approved expenses such as:<\/p><ul data-spread=\"false\"><li>Adaptive sports equipment<\/li><li>Sports wheelchairs or specialized mobility equipment<\/li><li>Handcycles, adaptive bicycles, or related accessories<\/li><li>Surfing, swimming, skiing, or other adaptive recreation equipment<\/li><li>Fitness or recreation program fees<\/li><li>Competition, tournament, camp, clinic, or event registration<\/li><li>Coaching, instruction, or adaptive training<\/li><li>Equipment modifications or repairs<\/li><li>Accessible transportation directly connected to an approved activity<\/li><li>Other equipment or services that help a person with a disability live a more active life<\/li><\/ul><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The Foundation does not provide unrestricted cash assistance. Every grant must be connected to a specific item, activity, program, or service approved by the Foundation.<\/p><h2>Adaptive Grant Eligibility<\/h2><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Applicants must:<\/p><ul data-spread=\"false\"><li>Have a physical disability<\/li><li>Live in San Diego County or the Tijuana border region<\/li><li>Identify a specific sport, recreation, fitness, or active-living goal<\/li><li>Explain how the requested support will increase participation, independence, health, inclusion, or quality of life<\/li><li>Submit an estimate, invoice, registration information, or other documentation showing the expected cost<\/li><li>Submit a complete application by the published deadline<\/li><\/ul><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">An organization, coach, school, rehabilitation professional, family member, or community representative may help an eligible individual submit an application. However, the award must benefit a specific person with a disability.<\/p><h2>Adaptive Grant Awards<\/h2><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Grant amounts are determined individually. The Foundation may approve all or part of a request based on:<\/p><ul data-spread=\"false\"><li>The applicant\u2019s demonstrated need<\/li><li>The expected impact of the grant<\/li><li>The reasonableness of the cost<\/li><li>The availability of other funding sources<\/li><li>The applicant\u2019s ability to use the item or participate in the activity<\/li><li>The Foundation\u2019s available funding<\/li><\/ul><p>The Foundation may approve a smaller amount than requested or may ask whether the applicant can obtain part of the funding from another source. An applicant will not be disqualified solely because they are unable to contribute financially.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e73f629 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"e73f629\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-457fa03 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"457fa03\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h1>Responsible Use of Awards<\/h1><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Grant and scholarship funds may only be used for the purpose identified in the award notice.<\/p><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Recipients must:<\/p><ul data-spread=\"false\"><li>Use the award only for the approved expense<\/li><li>Submit requested invoices, receipts, or proof of participation<\/li><li>Request written approval before changing the approved item or purpose<\/li><li>Return any funds that are unused or used for an unauthorized purpose<\/li><li>Notify the Foundation if the approved activity, purchase, or educational plan is canceled<\/li><\/ul><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Awards must generally be claimed within 90 days unless the Foundation approves an extension.<\/p><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">If an award is not claimed by the deadline, the Foundation may withdraw it and return the money to the grants and scholarships fund.<\/p><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">For equipment purchases, the Foundation may request confirmation that the equipment was delivered to the recipient. For program or activity expenses, the Foundation may request confirmation of registration or participation.<\/p><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Providing false or misleading information may result in disqualification, cancellation of an award, or a requirement to return Foundation funds.<\/p><div contenteditable=\"false\"><hr \/><\/div><h1>Fair and Independent Review<\/h1><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The Foundation evaluates applicants fairly and respectfully.<\/p><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Board members, committee members, volunteers, and reviewers must disclose any personal, family, business, or financial relationship with an applicant. Anyone with a conflict of interest may not evaluate, recommend, or vote on that application.<\/p><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Preference may be given to applicants who have not recently received Foundation funding when equally qualified applications exceed the available budget.<\/p><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">All awards are subject to available funding.
