The Foundation generally seeks to provide larger scholarships that can make a meaningful difference in a student’s education. When sufficient funding is available, the Foundation’s goal is to offer scholarships of $2,000.

One $2000 Gurmilan Foundation Adaptive Grant is available to athletes and other individuals with physical disabilities who want to pursue a more active life.
Applicants do not need to be professional or competitive athletes. Grants may support beginners, recreational participants, fitness enthusiasts, and experienced athletes.
The purpose of the program is to remove financial and accessibility barriers that may prevent a person with a disability from participating in sports, fitness, recreation, outdoor activities, or other forms of active living.

The Foundation does not provide unrestricted cash assistance. Every grant must be connected to a specific item, activity, program, or service approved by the Foundation.

An organization, coach, school, rehabilitation professional, family member, or community representative may help an eligible individual submit an application. However, the award must benefit a specific person with a disability.
Grant amounts are determined individually. The Foundation may approve all or part of a request based on:
The Foundation may approve a smaller amount than requested or may ask whether the applicant can obtain part of the funding from another source. An applicant will not be disqualified solely because they are unable to contribute financially.
Grant and scholarship funds may only be used for the purpose identified in the award notice.

Awards must generally be claimed within 90 days unless the Foundation approves an extension.
If an award is not claimed by the deadline, the Foundation may withdraw it and return the money to the grants and scholarships fund.
For equipment purchases, the Foundation may request confirmation that the equipment was delivered to the recipient. For program or activity expenses, the Foundation may request confirmation of registration or participation.
Providing false or misleading information may result in disqualification, cancellation of an award, or a requirement to return Foundation funds.
The Foundation evaluates applicants fairly and respectfully.
Board members, committee members, volunteers, and reviewers must disclose any personal, family, business, or financial relationship with an applicant. Anyone with a conflict of interest may not evaluate, recommend, or vote on that application.
Preference may be given to applicants who have not recently received Foundation funding when equally qualified applications exceed the available budget.
